Since the 4th of December, BMW’s warranty and technical campaign system is up and running on the brand-new SAP S/4HANA platform. Within the BMW Group, this is the first SAP application which completed a successful brownfield transformation to S/4HANA.
Although having a very challenging project backlog in 2018, BMW used a window of opportunity for the technical transformation to S/4. This enables BMW from 2019 onwards to utilize the S/4 platform for innovations in their warranty and technical campaign product.
Accelerated conversion thanks to automation
During the S/4HANA conversion smartShift took responsibility for the custom code work stream within the project. Arndt Hoffmann, General Manager Europe at smartShift: “We utilized our automation platform and serviced to accelerate the conversion and align all custom processes to function and perform on the new S/4HANA platform. The conversion was handled in the known smartShift speed and quality and enabled BMW to massively reduce freeze times for other projects”.

The project is part of a multi-year collaboration between BMW Group and smartShift in which BMW uses smartShift’s Automation platform to automate the digital transformation and management of BMW Group´s global portfolio of ERP systems.
